Cosmetic Tattoo Pre-Care

Thank you for choosing Beauty Touch by Jane Tran for your cosmetic tattooing experience! Please review the following instructions to prepare for your treatment and ensure the best results.

Pre-Appointment Restrictions

These restrictions help ensure your skin is in optimal condition for an amazing cosmetic tattoo brow procedure:

  • Avoid Caffeine

    • Do not consume coffee, energy drinks, or any caffeinated products for 24 hours before your appointment. Caffeine can make it difficult for you to stay still during the procedure and may increase bleeding, which can negatively impact pigment retention.

  • No Alcohol

    • Avoid drinking alcohol for 24 hours before your procedure, as it can thin the blood.

  • Medications and Supplements

    • Do not take blood-thinning supplements or medications 48–72 hours before your appointment unless medically necessary. This includes:

      • Aspirin, Niacin, Vitamins A, E, B6, Fish Oil, Omega-3, Ginkgo Biloba, St. John’s Wort, and Evening Primrose Oil.

      • Avoid alcohol, aspirin, Ibuprofen (Advil), and Aleve for 24 hours before the appointment. Tylenol or Acetaminophen is safe for pain relief.

  • Skin Products

    • Discontinue the use of Vitamin A, Retinol, Glycolic Acid, and prescription Retin-A products for at least 3 weeks before the procedure.

  • Workout & Sunlight

    • Avoid working out on the day of your procedure to prevent body heat from expanding your pores. Avoid heavy or direct sunlight exposure.

  • Botox

    • Do not get Botox treatments for at least 3 weeks before or 4 weeks after your procedure. Plan accordingly to prevent any complications.

  • Accutane

    • If you've used Accutane within the past 12 months, please schedule your appointment after this period.

  • Tanning and Tinting

    • Avoid tanning for 2 weeks prior. Do not tint your eyebrows within 7 days of your procedure.

  • Brow Shaping

    • Complete any brow shaping (waxing, tweezing, threading) at least 2 days before your appointment.

Additional Tips

Feel free to arrive with your usual brow makeup on so I can see your preferred look. This is especially helpful if you have a specific brow shape in mind. If you’re open to suggestions, I’m happy to offer options that will suit you personally.

What to Expect After PMU Brow Service

Initial Appearance

Don’t be alarmed if your eyebrows appear 20-30% darker and thicker than you desire. This can last up to two weeks and is part of the healing process. The skin underneath is red, making the pigment look darker. As your brows begin to flake, they will reduce in size.

Days 4 to 7

Expect some flaking and scabbing, and your brows may look dry. Do not pick at your brows; allow any dryness to fall off naturally. Picking can damage your PMU, resulting in patchy areas that may lead to scarring.

Healing Process

Do not expect your brow tattoos to heal perfectly after the first session. This is a two-step process and takes time. Be patient during the first 10 days, as your brows will change and may look different from day to day.

Color Loss

It is normal to lose about one-third of the color during the healing process. Please be patient, as healing can take up to 30 days.

Healing Process After Treatment

First 3 Days:

  • Pigment becomes more pronounced.

  • Eyebrows appear slightly thicker and richer in color.

  • Lymphatic secretion stops.

  • Skin begins to dry on the surface.

Days 4–6:

  • Eyebrows soften and may feel slightly itchy.

  • No longer sensitive to touch.

  • Pigment starts peeling off gradually.

  • Avoid picking or removing scabs to ensure proper healing.

Days 7–10:

  • Larger scabs may form in areas with more dried lymphatic fluid.

  • The rest peels off gently.

  • Skin may feel dry where brows peel, and tattooed areas might appear nearly invisible as the pigment absorbs deeper.

Days 11–20:

  • Most peeling is complete.

  • Brows may look pale, causing concern about pigment absorption—this is normal.

  • Change in tone is part of the process.

Days 21–30:

  • Brows may appear dull but are still healing.

  • Follow aftercare instructions closely.

  • Pigment begins to gain saturation as the skin regenerates.

After 30 Days:

  • Color becomes more vibrant, reaching its final shade.

  • Tattooed strokes blend naturally with existing brows.

  • Any white patches can be addressed during a touch-up session.

Up to 40 Days:

  • Most of the healing is complete.

  • Remaining white patches can be filled during a follow-up appointment.

Remember:

Patience and proper aftercare are key to achieving the best results during the healing process!

Please read carefully!

Following these instructions is essential for the best results after your Cosmetic Tattoo Brow session.

The day of treatment
  • In the first 24 hours, avoid any contact with water on your brows, including sweat.

DAYS 1-7: AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS
  • Moisturize & Cleanse

    • Gently clean the brow area with water to remove bacteria, product buildup, oils, and dead skin. Don’t worry—this will not remove the pigment! Use your fingertips with a very light touch, then gently pat dry with a clean tissue.

  • Apply Ointment

    • After cleansing and drying, use a rice-grain amount of the aftercare ointment provided in your aftercare package. Apply it with a clean cotton swab, spreading it gently across the treated area. Avoid over-applying; the ointment should be barely noticeable on the skin. Never apply ointment to wet or damp skin.

      • Dry/Normal Skin Types: Repeat 3-5 times per day through day 7.

      • Oily Skin Types: Only apply the ointment if you feel tightness or stretching after the first day.

  • Showering

    • Limit hot showers to 5 minutes, or take warm showers instead, for the next 7 days. Excessive steam can interfere with pigment retention. Protect your brows during showers by keeping them dry or covering them with plastic wrap.

Essential Aftercare Guidelines

Failure to follow can affect healed brows integrity

For the First 10 Days, Avoid:
  • All topical products (except the aftercare ointment provided).

  • Heavy sweating from intense exercise.

  • Water exposure, such as saunas, swimming, or steam rooms.

  • Skin treatments like facials or massages.

  • Sleeping on your brows.

For the First 30 Days, Avoid:
  • Sun exposure and tanning beds.

  • Laser treatments near the brow area.

  • Skin treatments, such as chemical peels or microdermabrasion.

  • Botox treatments.

Always Avoid:
  • Creams with regeneration factors, including Retinol or Vitamin C.

  • Laser treatments over the tattooed area, which may destroy pigment.

Additional Notes
  • Antibiotics and hormonal therapies may cause the pigment to fade faster.

  • Protect your brows from the sun with SPF 50+ or a hat after the first 7 days.

  • If you notice signs of infection, consult a healthcare professional immediately.

Cosmetic Lip Tattoo Pre-Care

Please read the following instructions carefully to ensure the best results for your treatment.

  • Cold Sore Precautions

    • While permanent makeup is very safe, lip blush is associated with a high risk of cold sores. If you have ever had a cold sore, I strongly recommend consulting your doctor about anti-viral medication before your lip procedure. This can help prevent an outbreak. You can also find Cold Sore Treatment online at GoodRx. If you’ve never had a cold sore but are concerned about getting one, consider taking L-lysine, an over-the-counter vitamin, for two weeks before and after your appointment.

  • Lip Conditions

    • If your lips are dry, I cannot perform the procedure. You will need to reschedule, and your deposit will be forfeited. To prevent this, please exfoliate your lips at least 5 days before your appointment to remove any dry skin. You can purchase a lip scrub or make your own by mixing coconut oil and brown sugar. Additionally, moisturize your lips as much as possible during the week leading up to your appointment.

Cosmetic Lip Tattoo Aftercare Instructions

Following your treatment, you may experience redness, swelling, tenderness, and dryness. These side effects are common and will subside in a short period. Your lips may also become flaky during the healing process; this is normal. Please refrain from picking or scratching your lips, as this can significantly reduce pigment absorption. To ensure optimal healing and color retention, please follow the instructions below for at least two weeks. Results may vary from person to person and are not guaranteed.

  • Avoid Irritants

    • Do not use any fruit acids, hydroxy acids, or glycolic acids on your lips.

  • Cleansing

    • Wash your lips twice daily for 7–10 days with a gentle, fragrance-free cleanser until flaking has stopped. DO NOT RUB YOUR LIPS. Use a clean, lint-free tissue or soft towel to gently pat your lips dry, ensuring they are completely dry with no moisture remaining.

  • Cosmetics

    • Do not wear lipstick, lip gloss, or any other lip products until your lips have fully healed.

  • Dietary Considerations

    • Avoid oily, salty, or acidic foods and refrain from consuming alcohol while your lips are healing.

  • Gentle Care

    • Ensure that your lips do not experience any friction during the healing process.

  • Hygiene

    • Wash your hands with antibacterial soap before washing your lips.

  • Moisturizing

    • Throughout the day, apply a very thin layer of the aftercare balm provided in your take-home package. Do not let your lips become dry, as this could interfere with your healing results. After your treatment, continue following the after-care for at least 14 days. Apply the balm gently by tapping it on your lips, and always use a clean Q-tip—never your fingers—to minimize infection risk.

  • Sun Exposure

    • Avoid sun exposure and tanning beds during the healing process.

  • Swelling Relief

    • If your lips are swollen, you can apply ice (not directly) for up to 15 minutes at a time. If swelling persists, sleep slightly elevated for the first few nights.

  • Water Precautions

    • Avoid direct water pressure and swimming pools until healing is complete.

Color Preservation

After the initial healing period (7–10 days), use lip gloss with sunblock over the tattooed area to preserve color. Continue using a sunblock with UVA and UVB protection of at least SPF 30.
